Teddy Bear Hospital
You saw correctly! Teddy Bear Hospital. What is this about?
The Teddy Bear Hospital Community Day is in it's sixth year and is organised by the University of Otago second- and third-year Medical students.
The day involves a free consultation of a child's teddy bear or toy. This is designed to accustom children to medical gear such as stethoscopes, and to help reduce anxiety about doctor/ dental visits. The day will have a relaxed, safe and fun atmosphere. Parents and caregivers will have to book a consultation for their child's teddy bear. The day will also include lots of fantastic activities, such as a bouncy castle, face painting and healthy living workshops.
Medical students also greatly appreciate the learning opportunity this
day provides them with. On this day, they can practice our consultation skills,
while having fun and learning a little bit more about how to interact
with children. This will hopefully one day aid them in future medical
practice.
