Wakari Haka

Caroline Brown —

Year 5 and 6 children have been learning our school haka.

Over the last few weeks the Year 5s and 6s have been learning a haka. The Year 6s will be performing it at the Leaver's night and everyone will be performing the haka and a few songs we have been learning at the school hangi. The haka is about the three mountains surrounding our school and about our school history. The haka is about where we all stand, where we come everyday to learn and to grow. The songs are called Te Rangatahi and Toia Me Te Waka.

Wakari School are doing a haka to greet visitors at the hangi next week. We learnt the haka with Mr Tait.   It didn’t take too long to get the hang of it. I'm excited to perform the haka in front of an audience. Doing the haka makes me feel good. I've had to learn the haka and it makes me proud of being at Wakari.
