Hills Cluster Cross Country

Chloe Barton —

On Tuesday last week, Wakari School runners headed down to Balmacewen for the Hills Cluster Cross Country.

Wakari competed with children from Arthur St, Columba, Halfway Bush, Kaikorai, Maori Hill and St Mary's. All of the children did extremely well and represented Wakari amazingly! Well done to these Year 5 and 6 children heading to the Otago Cross Country: Mae, Charlie, Felix, Elijah, Joey, Roree, Shalia, Milly, Ollie and Yoko- Good luck!

Slam! As Paige said "Ready, Set, Go!" I sprinted. I was coming first but then a kid ran in front of me when I was running up the humungous hill. We got towards the finish line. I sprinted to beat the boy in front of me. Boom! We finished! I found it a bit hard to breathe, but that was the end of my race.

On Tuesday I went to Hills Cluster. It was FREEZING but when we started running it got warmer. I'm a year 4 girl so our race was first. There were so many people from other schools. I came second! I almost came first. My mum said if I came first I could go in a helicopter, but I came second.

BOOM! Paige said "ready, set, go!" We all sprinted off in a big block. I was ahead of everyone but then someone passed me. Overall I came 7th place and I couldn’t breath at the end!

On Tuesday I was in the Hills Cluster Cross Country. It was freezing when we were in our uniform. Once we were at the starting line I was so nervous. I was going to compete against 6 schools. I came 8th in the whole thing.

"GOOOOO!" Paige shouted. I ran as fast as I could. I went around the tree, past the rugby club then headed to the hill. I was slowing down as I ran up the hill then I was speeding up as I was going around the corner. I sprinted to the finish line. I came 24th. I felt like I was about to die. I was exhausted and felt like my heart was going to break my rib cage BUT I was proud.
