Wakari continues to be well served by both its staff and its Community.

Unfortunately, not all Schools are created equal and that is why the ongoing push from the Principals and Teacher Union is so important. Teaching is a fabulous adventure, no 2 days are the same. We deal with the best and worst of human nature, fortunately, more of the best with our community than the worst. Days can be extremely rewarding, others challenging. At the end of the day it is all about the people!

In Dunedin we have a University churning out teachers every year who would love to stay in Dunedin to begin their careers. Not every city/town/rural area is as lucky. This is why we must look to attract the very best we can into the profession. There are a number of ways to achieve this but as of yet, none seem to be stemming the flow that we are currently experiencing. Teacher fields are thinning out, applications for leadership roles are diminishing and we are heading down a path that is less than ideal for our children. Next week Paid Union Meetings are happening across the country, this is an opportunity for Teachers and Principals to hear about the latest offers from the bargaining that has been ongoing. 

Initial reaction from media and the NZEI does not make for positive reading. Wakari Teachers will be attending PUM's on Wednesday and Thursday of next week. This will hopefully mean as little disruption for learners as possible as we will be remaining open across these times.

Parent-teacher Interviews are happening across this Monday and Tuesday. Over 90% of our Whanau attend these important learning discussions. Please ensure you have filled out the online form (link below) around whether your child will be staying or leaving on Monday afternoon.
