SENIOR HUB CELEBRATE THEIR MĀTAURANGA LEARNING

Anna Ollerenshaw —

The Senior Hub have been learning about Mātauranga - Māori knowledge.

Over the past term the children have learnt about the first explorers to Aotearoa, Kupe and his voyage, navigation, migration, and they have explored the journey of their own whanau to The Land of the Long White Cloud. Tahu from the Orokonui Ecosanctuary also came to share her knowledge of birds, migration and native trees. Sir Ian Taylor has been involved in creating a website full of information that we used throughout our topic https://maatauranga.co.nz/.

The children wrote questions to ask about their ancestors journey to Aotearoa. They recorded these on a podcast using Anchor. Once this was done they took this knowledge and shared it in a visual project. Some children made puppet shows, wrote songs, posters, dioramas, books and models. We were very impressed with the new learning and the creativity of their presentations.
