Kia Orana from The Cook Islands

Georgie Bond —

Room 1 have been learning about The Cook Islands this term as part of our Commonwealth Games topic. Lets show you what we have been up to...

We were very lucky to have Charlotte, Lucas's mum, come in and teach us some Cook Island song and dance. The children really enjoyed putting on flowery lays and skirts to really get into the spirit of the Cook Island.

We learned about the Tivaevae. A Tivaevae is patches of material stitched together by hand. It is considered to be the ultimate gift presented at a wedding, birthday or a funeral. A Tivaevae is stitched with love and we had a go at making one out of coloured card.
