Fun times at our Whānau Wānanga! (Family Day/Workshop)

Heather Bonney —

Last weekend we hosted at Whānau Wānanga (Family Day/Workshop) at Wakari School.  This was an opportunity for our families to come together and explore some of our beautiful Māori arts - such as poi and flax weaving (harakeke).

Thank you to all our families who came along to explore the activities on offer at the weekend.  The morning started with an opening karakia (prayer) and waiata (song) and then our families tried their hand at flax weaving, poi making, stick games, mau rākau (long sticks), creating kowhaiwhai patterns and playing beautiful music using traditional Māori instruments.  We hope you all had as much fun as we did!
