Tournament of Minds children have a ball

Chris Smith —

Although we are not the South Island Champs for 2017 the team that competed at the recently held event in Christchurch, along with Mrs Gribben and their parents, had a ball.

The team, that was formed after several months of challenges to narrow down to 7 participants, actually scored better this year than the 2016 cohort but the competition was stiff and our team missed out on defending their title. Congratulations to the team, see the article written by Riley in this Newsletter for more of an insight to what went on on the day, you worked extremely hard both at School and at home and I know from the sessions I witnessed it was a lot of fun combined with some great challenges.

On Tuesday 195 children represented our School at the Polyfest held at the Edgar Centre. A massive effort from performers, Staff and parents to get to the well oiled machine we witnessed performing. The two groups combined to show snippets of what they have been working on this year. The popularity of both groups and the level of performance shows that the hours put in by Staff are very much appreciated by the children and Community. A special mention to Mrs Bonney, Mrs Gribben and Mr Tupai, your efforts are appreciated.

A week ago our Stars on Stage group jinked and jived at the regent theatre in our 11th time as a School performing. 95 children took part in "A Taste of Kiwi Music" and the look on their faces said it all. As I said in assembly last week this was the best group to accompany to the event in my time as Principal, Well done kids. Well done and many thanks to Mrs Gribben and the senior syndicate teachers.

The School Fair is this Sunday and I hope the 'Sun Dances' come through for us. My thanks to the Home and School group that have worked tirelessly to put this event on to benefit the kids at Wakari. It is not too late to offer a hand so let the office know and we can pass it on to the committee.

Lots of sickness about, please keep your wee ones at home until they are fully recovered. There are some guidelines on our website supplied by the Public Health Nurse.

The School Pool Committee will again be selling keys to our Parents, watch this space for details.

See you all on Sunday,

Regards Chris
