School's in and Summer arrives.

Chris Smith —

Expectation and routines are becoming entrenched as we bite into learning for Term 1.

Thanks to the Senior Syndicate teachers, student teachers and a fabulous group of parents that helped to make Year 6 camp a successful experience for that cohort of learners. A week away experiencing a bit of what camping is about chucked in with archery, shooting, abseiling, sailing, kayaking and the list goes on, all in all an invaluable week for our learners.

We currently have 310 students at Wakari and we will be opening our next classroom (Room 7) at the beginning of Term 2. It is pleasing to see the children  getting into their work while also experiencing the variety and breadth of the curriculum. Trips to Toitu and the museum for middle and junior classes have already happened. Mandarin classes (junior term 1) are underway and as you see from the photo attached to this article our Sports Activator Naomi is back assisting with our Physical Education programmes.

Summer Sports  are underway and again I urge you to encourage your child to give something a crack this year that may unleash a hidden talent.

On a personal note thank you to the staff, children and parents that are giving up their Saturday afternoon this week to perform, or cater for, the celebration of a former pupil and current grandfather of our school that received a New Year's Honour.  It is very much appreciated by the Smith Whanau.

Regards Chris
