The Room 12 and 13 Hub Take Action!

Chloe Barton —

In Room 12 and 13 we are very passionate about our environment. We know that there are huge issues with pollution and we must be the ones to make a change!

We have come up with a range of ways to inform the public of the harm they are doing, in particular, to our waterways. Some of the projects we have taken on are rubbish bin designs, videos, songs, news bulletins, commercials and billboards. Keep and eye out for our finished products and please- help us be water heroes!

Warning!!!!!!!! Save our oceans.

Throughout history, water has been used for drinking, showering and bathing , but…

People have been polluting our oceans!

Throwing oil and rubbish and toxins, any kind of litter is bad for our environment. Did you know that the great pacific garbage patch is almost the size of Fiji. The surrounding areas of land, America, Hawaii and Easter island would be throwing the litter in the stormwater drains, then into the oceans. That’s why it’s been bad for our environment…

What pollutes our oceans?

-rubbish(e.g chippie packets, cigarette butts)

-toxins from pesticides

-oil (e.g petrol/diesel, when a car breaks down and oil drips, when it rains it washes away to the ocean)

-soapy water (e.g the soapy water is bad for our environment and if it hits our oceans, the fish will probably die because of the nasty chemicals)

-cow poo (e.g sometimes cows escape from their barn to the streams, the good part is just they are thirsty, the bad part is they poop in the river and it causes issues for our oceans and the barn)

-fertiliser from farms, gardens and any nature park

-dog poo (e.g it’s illegal and you have to pay a 3,000 dollar fee)

-paint(e.g paint has nasty chemicals and if it hits our oceans, it will kill the fish kind of like the soapy water but less harmless!?)

Anyway to save our planet?

So here are some fancy tips to save our planet.

-if you see any litter, poo or a bucket of paint, soapy water or toxins, pick up the litter or poo and put it in the bin, call the police so that stranger will pay a 3,000 dollar fee.  Any fluid? Drive to the landfill and the workers will sort it out.

-turtles think that plastic bags are jellyfish, so when you see a turtle about to eat plastic bags. Pick it up before the turtle dies.

-toxins like poisons will drip down to the ocean, scientists don’t really know for sure but my option is to bring a bucket, fill it up with the toxic water, then go to the sink/toilet, tip it down and the toxic water will go through a filter so it’s cleaned.

That is how the ocean is polluted and saved.

One more question...

Did you know that the great pacific garbage patch contains more than 1.8 trillion pieces of rubbish?

Wow lots.
