Mātauranga learning

Caroline Brown —

The Senior Hub got their learning about 'Mātauranga' ignited by a fantastic visit to the Otago Museum.

At The Otago Museum we were learning about Polynesian explorers. We looked at all the voyaging wakas and boats. Then we played a game where you had to choose 11 things that you will take on your waka. If you got the right thing it says you get to move to the next part!! It was really fun.

We also went into another exhibit called maritime where we learnt who the first European to arrive to New Zealand (Abel Tasman).

It was amazing !!

On 25th and 26th May the Senior Hub went to the Otago Museum in their homerooms. We learned about early explorers ,as well as waka. We played some games. Our tour guide Chris was AWESOME!! He told us about how early explorers came to New Zealand . The Otago Museum had a real moa bone and we got to hold it. It was really big and it felt really bumpy. We were told about Kupe how he was one of the first explorers to find New Zealand . We enjoyed our trip

Many thanks to the parents and grandparents who were able to come for the morning. We really loved having you with us and hope you enjoyed learning about the voyagers too.
