Board News

Board of Trustees —

See what the Board has been up to recently.

Well it feels like a lot has happened since the last Board newsletter, not the least of which was the recent lockdown. On behalf of the Board I would like to say a huge thanks to all the staff at Wakari who have managed once again to do the best for our children under difficult circumstances. From the delivering of devices and resources, to online learning and bubble school, the staff have done a great job of nurturing our happy, confident learners.

We have had two Board meetings since the last newsletter. In the June meeting we had the opportunity to meet our new adviser from the Education Review Office. ERO have changed the way they work with all schools so instead of having a short visit followed by an assessment, we have been given an adviser who will work alongside the school over a longer period. Our August meeting was attended by Heather Bonney who gave us an interesting and informative update on our Maori and Pasifika learners.

Prior to lockdown there were a number of important school events such as Parent Teacher interviews, Matariki celebrations, the Cross Country and the Middle Syndicate World of Wearable Arts show. It was great to see so many whanau supporting these events and celebrating the efforts of the students and staff. Hopefully, there will be more chances to get involved before the year is out, COVID levels permitting!

Ngā mihi,

Michelle
