Uke Nukes!

Carolyn Robins —

Amazing ukelele skills were shared and shown when The Nukes came to Wakari School in Week 1 this term.

On Tuesday 18th October Wakari School were lucky to have The Nukes visit.  They did a workshop with the senior ukelele group in the morning and then performed for the school in the afternoon - with our very own ukelele stars helping them out!

Songs performed included Elephants are on the Moon, Lemon Tree, Peas and Carrots, and my personal favourite - Worms.  We all got to join in actions like the chicken and being cool.

The Nukes then went on to do a show in the soundshell at the Botanic Gardens as part of the Dunedin Arts Festival and were joined by some of our Wakari ukelele stars!

What our tamariki thought.......

Tuesday 19th the Ukes Nukes came to wakari school Dunedin NZ, the Nukes members of the Ukuleleists Dave, Ben, and Josh taught us how to play multiple songs such as peas and carrots, worms and potatoes, then we performed in front of the school and they did some other songs like elephants in space. All the school loved their performance at wakari. Then the senior's ukulele group came up and performed and played potatoes, peas and carrots, and worms. After they finished their performance the school crowd erupted into a round of applause for the nukes,

Then they handed out flyers for their performance at the botanic gardens where any child with a ukulele could come and perform with the nukes.

On Tuesday 19th of October the Uke Nukes came to Wakari school for a workshop and a school presentation! Ben, Josh and Dave were the 3 ukulele experts that were teaching us new skills. At the workshop The first song that we learnt was Peas and Carrots! This was a fun song for us to learn! We started off by learning new chords for the song and then learning the lyrics! The Nukes are a fabulous band that come from Auckland and go all around Aotearoa to perform at schools! We also learnt the 2 songs The first song was Worms and the second song was Potatoes. At the end of the workshop the school came in and listened to the Nukes play. The performance was amazing. In the middle of the performance the wakari wonders joined the stage and performed with the Nukes. My favourite songs were Worms in the Ground and Elephants in space! I loved the workshop and the Performance, the Nukes are very talented and the songs are very interesting!

On the 19th of october the Uke Nukes came and taught us some skills. Dave, Ben and Josh were the people teaching us. They taught us different chords, songs and how to be a professional ukuleleist. We spent 1 or 2 hours there learning, after that we helped them perform 3 songs to the whole school. They came from Auckland and traveled around New zealand to perform, the songs were peas and carrots, worms and potatoes. When we performed we stood up and sang with happiness and joy. In the middle they showed us this song that we had to do the chores dance when they sang. My favorite part was when we performed because it was an amazing experience that I will never forget. By the end of it I was really happy and wanted to do it every single day. The Nukes are amazing and awesome people and I hope they come back one day.

On Tuesday 19th of October the Uke Nukes Josh, Dave and Ben flew down from Auckland to play ukulele with us, teach us some new songs and taught us some new tricks and skills.

The songs that they taught us were called worms, peas and carrots and potatoes which the school ukulele group played in front of the whole school. They also played us some other songs that they wrote called lemons and elephants in space.

My favourite part was playing the potatoes song because we got to do actions as well as playing the song.
