Go New Zealand!

Gemma Matsopoulos —

The junior hub has been getting behind our kiwi athletes and learning about the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

For topic, Rooms 1,2 and 3 have been learning about the 2022 Commonwealth Games being held in Birmingham. Last week we explored the concept of ‘belonging’ to the Commonwealth and the many different events that take place at the Commonwealth Games. We looked at the mascot of the Commonwealth Games, Perry the Bull. Perry was designed by a 10 year old from Manchester who won a contest to create Birmingham’s mascot. Perry loves sport and he is happy to give anything a go! We had so much fun bringing Perry the mascot to life with our colourful creativity.

This week we have been keeping tabs on the medal table and we are so proud and impressed by all of our kiwi athletes! Mrs Bond introduced the hub to our very own Erika Fairweather who is from Dunedin and is representing New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games for swimming. The tamariki shared wonderful ideas about Erika's togs and how they help her performance in the pool.
