Year 5 camp was a blast!

Caroline Brown —

The Year 5s had a fabulous time at their recent Waiora Camp. A huge thanks to the parents that came along and helped out.

We did lots of amazing and fun activities like abseiling, archery and air rifles. We ate spectacular meals and wonderful desserts that tasted devine!!

Year five camp was really really fun. I really enjoyed air rifles and I loved all the baking but its a real shame about the nature trail - that is very boring.....

Year five camp was a blast with all the activities.

Like air rifles, archery, orienteering, and the boring nature trail.

🏕Year 5 camp🏕

First we went to Waiora camp.

We set out our sleeping bags and blankets. Our bunk room was bunkroom A. Me and Renee slept on the top and Paige and Isabela slept on the bottom bunk.

Once the hooter went we lined up in our activity group. My activity group was the Adventurers. Renee was my camp buddie and Paige and Isabela were in my bunk room. Then we had our morning tea from our lunchbox. I had fried rice. Straight after lunch we went abseiling!! It was so fun. There were 3 levels. I was the first person to go down level 3. Then we had afternoon tea. The next day we went on the nature trail then we went swimming. It was FREEZING but I still did some swimming.

Then we went back to the MTC and got warm. Then it was time for the waterslide. I went down twice with my mum and once with Mrs Fitzgerald. We had meatloaf for tea and ambrosia with ice cream and played murder mystery. It was fun.

One of the first things we did at camp was go to our bunk rooms and cabins. Then we laid our sleeping bags down on the beds and decorated the rooms. For morning tea we got our lunch boxes from outside. After that we went back to the cabins and bunk rooms. We got ready for our first activity, after that we had lunch. Once everyone finished their lunch we all went swimming but one group did not because they were at abseiling. When we got there everybody ran in and started screaming because the water was so so cold. A bit later we did another activity then we had afternoon tea. All of a sudden it started raining so we went inside. We got some free time. A bit later it was time for dinner. At 9:30pm we went to bed. The next day we had breakfast. Then we did few activities. Also in that time we had lunch and afternoon tea. A bit later in the afternoon we went swimming and went on the waterside. Finally we had dinner. The last day we packed up and went back to school.

Year 5 camp was super duper fun because I tried things I have never done before. It was really exciting. My favourite part was the abseiling because it was scary but I faced my fears of heights. It was awesome sharing my bunk room with my friends.

Camp was fun. I loved trying the abseiling. The harness felt weird and the cliff was steep. I was proud I did it. The parents were good helpers. It was fun when Mrs Brown went down the waterslide with me.

Camp was fun, tiring and scary. My favourite thing was the waterslide because I went down on my belly and jumped up and grabbed the tyre. I climbed up and everyone was screaming really loudly. They tried to copy me. The sausages, potato and the sandwiches were yummy.

The archery was really fun. I didn’t hit the target. I versed a teacher zooming down the waterslide. Water splashed everywhere. The nature trail was terrifying because I got bitten on the leg and it was a very steep hill. We walked through the water and it was very cold.

I loved the abseiling. It was fun and scary at the same time. It was scary that you couldn’t see the bottom. I loved my bunk room because we all worked together helping each other. The meatloaf was nice and tender. It was my favourite. The ambrosia was tasty, soft and cold. It was delicious.

Year five camp was a moment to remember because of the fun activities. My favourite activity was probably abseiling although it was scary at first you get used to it after about 3 tries. In my bunk room was Ella who was my camp buddie, Ari and her buddy Kate along with me. The one thing that was boring was the nature trail even tho we went through a freezing cold river it was BORING! One more fun thing was the water slide. We got to watch the teachers including the student teachers go down the slide. When i went down on my stomach i went over the end and had to be caught before i flew over the hill. We also went to the lake and all the girls and some boys were screaming but I thought that it was fine and was trying to swim but my feet kept knocking the rocks which hurt really bad. The dinner from both nights were amazing. I really enjoyed air rifles but we missed out on archery. That night we played MURDER MYSTERY! We had to go around interviewing some of the suspects/parents to find out who it was.The next day we spent all day tidying the camp.

I didn’t like the swimming because it was so cold. The good thing was that it was Zac’s birthday. We all sang happy birthday to him.  Lunch wasn’t too bad because it was sandwiches that we could make our own.  The activities were quite good and energetic.

I really liked the water slide because it was really fast. I had fun going down with my friends. It was scary the first time. The food was cooked well. It was all tasty.

The archery was really fun. I nearly hit a bullseye. The bows were easy to use. It was easier than I thought it would be. The meatloaf was really good and so were the sausages. The abseiling was really fun. Level three was the easiest because part of it you just freefall down. The parents were really nice and helpful.

Everything that we did had some stuff that was fun for everyone. My favourite thing was the waterslide. The teachers went down too. The meatloaf was delicious.
