Shiny and new wins through

Chris Smith —

The children have been loving the new playground, taking turns and enjoying playing together.

The Board would like to take this opportunity to thank the four Trusts that contributed to the cost of the new playground: Otago Community Trust, The Lion Foundation, Alexander McMillian Trust and Grass Roots Trust Central.

Best of luck to our Uke Jam performers who are off to Balmacewen Intermediate today to have a blast, and also to the 12 runners who have qualified for the Otago Cross Country to be held tomorrow at Kaikorai Valley College.

The leadership team have been looking at syndicate structures for 2023. There will be some changes as we look to do what is best for all of our pupils while maintaining some of the structures that we know work. None of the changes are things we have not done before. These changes come about from year to year as we balance the size of varying cohorts of pupils.

In 2023 our senior syndicate will contain, alongside Year 5 and 6 pupils, around 50% (24) of our Year 4 pupils. This will allow us to maintain our 4 classroom structure. Our middle syndicate will drop to 3 classrooms and include a small handful of year 2 pupils. See the article around 2023 Structures for more information.

Obviously some change ahead for our School. A new Board of Trustees will begin its reign at our next meeting on September 19. Its first major order of business will be to select a new Principal for Wakari. You can assist this process by taking a couple of minutes to complete the survey sent to parents on Tuesday.

Thanks for the kind words of congratulations and messages that have come to me and the family over the last week. Anna the kids and I look forward to making the most of the rest of the year at Wakari before moving to Christchurch.

Nga mihi

Chris
