Children's Author visits Wakari School.

Anna Lawson —

Wakari School was very fortunate to host the Award winning Lucy Davey notable children's author to school this week.

Lucy Davey is the recipient of the Storylines' Joy Cowley Award for her story, “Out of Bed, Fred!”  She has written many well known books which we have in our Wakari School library, and I'm sure many of you have them in your children's collection.  I know in Room 4 so many of the children recognised her books and said they had them at home. Her books include " The Bee's Sneeze", "The Fidgety Itch", "Fifi la Belle" and "Mr Mayor's Pavlova" to name a few.

Lucy Davey captivated the children telling them about her life as a Mum and initially a Scientist, and then her move to becoming a children's author.  She talked about how she writes her books, how she gets the inspiration and ideas which are an integral part of the writing process. We even had a song about a Tarantula, and then to end the session she read the story "The Fidgety Itch" pulling children from the audience to take on the characters from the story.  The rest of the children also participated, as the "Fru-fru" trees. The children enjoyed the show immensely and it was a fabulous experience for them to hear from a well known and such engaging author.  Thank you to Mrs Stanbridge who made it all possible and brought Lucy Davey to Wakari School.
