ENVIRO SCHOOL UPDATE

Lynda Bardwell —

Last Friday, Mrs Bardwell and 3 members of our Enviro Group spent a wonderful day at our local Marae, the Shetland Street Community Garden, and the Kaikorai Stream with other school pupils from around Dunedin.

Our day began with a traditional powhiri, which is a Maori welcoming ceremony, which was followed by a delicious morning tea.

After that the focus of our day was learning about water.  We found out where water comes from and where it ends up, and how we can look after the water in our environment.  We also carried out several experiments testing the quality of water in the Kaikorai stream.  We had a fabulous day and learnt heaps.  If you get a chance visit the Shetland Street Community Garden, it really is a special place!
