Principal's Post

Stacey Gribben —

Thank you to everyone who attended Parent/Teacher interviews. So far we have had 95% of whānau attend interviews. That is fantastic! Communication between home and school is so important and interviews are a valuable part of that communication.

Regular attendance is considered to be - present for 90% of the time, which means no more than 5 days absent per term. I am absolutely thrilled to say that our attendance data is continuing to improve. Comparing 2023 to 2024, we made a 5% improvement for the year and so far in Term 1, 2025 we are already ahead of where we were at this time in 2024. The graph pictured above shows that we have reached our attendance goal for 4 of the last 5 weeks. The Government has introduced a Stepped Attendance Response which sets expectations for schools, parents/guardians, and the Ministry of Education. This includes templates for formal notifications to parents for irregular attendance. More attendance information is available on the Ministry website.

Teachers have been really busy undertaking professional development. As we did in 2024, teachers attend class after school every Monday in Term 1 to improve our skills and confidence in Te Reo. Teachers have also been attending professional development sessions in structured literacy which comprises of 2 full days , followed up by 8 after school workshops. On Tuesday 25 March, 5 schools in our community have a Teacher Only Day scheduled, where we will all come together to receive professional development on the new Maths curriculum. Along with hub, syndicate and staff meetings this is a very busy time, with lots of new learning for teachers. I have been so impressed and proud of our staff for their enthusiasm and willingness to take on so much new learning in a short space of time.

Once again, if I can be of assistance with any matter, feel free to contact me.

Ngā mihi
