Clay, cricket and research projects - Friday Project sessions in Room 8

Katy Fitzgerald —

Senior Hub students have enjoyed Friday Project sessions over the last 4 weeks. Here is what has been happening in Room 8.

Down on the courts, students have enjoyed learning cricket skills and using these skills in games. Some highlights for the students were:

I enjoyed the different games we got to play like the one with the Feed Buddy, which is a machine that throws the ball to you - Renee

I liked the game we played where you had to throw the ball to a group of people and get it over the line - Mason L-S

I enjoyed learning how to bowl - Jaiden

I liked playing the fun games and learning how to bowl - Alex W

In the classroom, a group of students have been working with clay. Their first task was to create a dragon's eye, then they moved on to fish. They focused on the features, especially the eyes, fins, tail and mouth. Some combined the fish idea with a pinch pot.

Another group decided to research a topic of their choice. They started by looking for books in the library, then added some online research, before deciding how to share what they had learned.

Thanks to Andrew from Otago Cricket for organising and running the cricket sessions and to Paula who came in to help the research group and sourced some excellent books.
