Snow / Ice Days

Admin —

Reminders for snow and ice days.

Thank you for your support during the first snow day of 2018.

Along with winter comes those days when we have to make decisions about the school opening time because of snow and/or ice conditions. We have to consider not only conditions in the immediate community, but also those throughout the city. It may be suitable for children to walk to school, but impossible for staff from other suburbs to arrive as usual.

We also need to consider the safety of children when black ice is prominent around the hill suburbs. Hence the need to delay the start of school.

What you can do when there are MARGINAL conditions:

  • Follow us on Facebook. There are regular updates here
  • Phone the school 476 3140
  • Listen to radio (97.4FM, 89.4FM, 1125AM or 1305AM)
  • Call other parents you know - they might have heard!

If school has opened at 10am and you are not able to get to school, please leave a message on the school absence line (476 3140, then press “1”).

What to do when there is HEAVY SNOW:

Usually we call for a 10am start, then as daylight comes, we have a better idea of the conditions and it may be possible that school will be closed for the day.

We try make a final decision by 9.15am, as this allows us time to consult with various agencies so we can make the best decision. We recommend that you stay at home until this time, so you do not miss out on any updates.

If in doubt – stay home! Find out the situation before leaving home.
