2017 - Thanks for your support

Chris Smith —

It was great to see those who attended the Community BBQ last night. This was the Board and Staff's way of thanking you for the support across  the year.

From my perspective 2017 has been a successful year for Wakari School. We have had challenges, which subsequently provides us with opportunities. The pupils of the school are great; they are diverse, welcoming, eager to learn and a neat bunch of Kiwi kids.

Our school roll is very healthy, we will look to kick off 2017 with approximately 300 pupils.  We have some new staff entering the classrooms full time and some of our "own" taking up leadership positions. I know you will continue to support the school in a variety of ways.

Reading will be our Charter focus for the coming year. We will be targeting our priority learners across all classrooms and looking to accelerate progress for our students. We are also continuing our delve into collaboration not only from a teaching hands-on point of view but also from the way we plan and assess to the shape and look of our classrooms.

The Board in conjunction with the Home and School (through the 2017 School Fair and Government) are looking to target innovative learning environments and are committed to purchasing a range of furniture to suit the different learning styles and needs that Wakari School has identified for its pupils. We have also entered into a contract with CORE education with Mark Osbourne as the facilitator. This will support our look into collaboration and also concentrate on future focused schooling.

From the Board of Trustees and Staff of Wakari School Happy Christmas as we look forward to 2017.
