"Run", yelled the Batters. "Pass the ball to me", called the Fielders. "What about the photo!"

Dorothy Hutton —

See what fun Room 1 have got up to.

Room 1 had an action-packed Tuesday morning at cricket coaching with Jayden. The batters lined up, eagerly waiting for their turn.  The first batter stepped forward, focused on the ball, swung the bat out wide and sent it flying towards the fielders.  Lining up the next ball he struck it with force and off it flew, low and straight, just above the ground.  Determined to top the last two attempts, the third ball soared up high landing out past the fielders.  Batter number one took off, running at full speed between the wickets to gain six runs.  Meanwhile, the fielders hastily worked to retrieve all three balls from their various locations.  Working as a team, they passed the balls to each other, trying to get them back to the cones before the batter got too many more runs.  Then the next batter stepped forward and so it went on.  Sometimes the fielders had to be reminded to go back, they were so keen to get to those balls. It was noisy!  Cheers could be heard as balls were got back quickly and when the runs exceeded expectations.  Kindness was very evident, as students passed balls so others could have a turn at returning them.  Everyone loved playing 'Shotgun Cricket.'  This is what the players had to say ...

Asher, Ryley and Lenix loved running at cricket and getting runs.

Benjamin loved running at cricket.

Thalia enjoyed running on the grass, hitting the ball hard and she tried very hard.

Harper and Quinn loved seeing the ball go all the way when they hit it.

Penelope, Charlotte, Jayden and Ryan loved hitting the ball at cricket.

Ryder loved cricket because it was so fast and fun.

Ranyah loved cricket because Coach Jayden taught her new things.  Theo said Jayden was a really good coach.

Lucy loved getting the ball three times when she was a ball catcher.

James loved everything at cricket!

Brooke loved throwing the ball.

Emma loved being a fielder and caught lots of balls.

Petra loved being a fielder first so she could watch how to be a good batter and then her batting turned out to be okay.  In fact her favourite bit was when she hit a ball really far.  She said, "Woo Hoo!"
