Where has this Term gone?

Chris Smith —

One winter term down with lots of great learning opportunities for the kids at Wakari.

It is hard to believe that we are halfway through the school year for 2019, still plenty to go for our pupils yet though.

Thanks to Mrs Bonney and Mrs Gribben and the Wakari group that performed last Sunday at the local church as part of the Matariki celebrations. I received a lovely email from Brendan congratulating everyone on the performance.

Pleasing to see a resolution for teachers and the government in the last two weeks. Unfortunately, this agreement has done nothing to improve the challenges that the profession faces every day. The Tomorrow Schools Review was due to the Minister by June 28, I note with interest how little is being said about it.

Our Redevelopment of Rooms 10, 11 (Stage 1) and Rooms 1, 2 and 3 (Stage 2) will begin in the second week of next term. Rooms 10 and 11 will be relocated for about 5 weeks to Rooms 4 and the Middles Maker Space. Rooms 1, 2 and 3 will begin after this (Week 7) and will spend the remainder of the term in Rooms 4, Middles Maker Space and our Library. We believe this will cause the least disruption for the pupils learning.

We welcomed our new Board of Trustees this Monday with Beth Chisholm elected as Board Chairperson and Cameron Grindlay elected as Deputy Chairperson. NAG areas were divided up according to the strengths of the members who are: Duncan Trickey, Michelle Matthews, Beth Chisholm, Michelle Cone, Cameron Grindlay, Brent Davies and Caroline Brown as the staff representative. David Irvine has been co-opted back onto the Board also. I look forward to continuing to work closely with our Board to ensure the best for Wakari School.

Enjoy the upcoming break with friends and family and I look forward to seeing everyone back ready to learn in Term 3.

Regards Chris
