Whānau Wānanga (Family Day/Workshop) at Wakari School Next Saturday!
Next Saturday (17th September) we will be hosting a whānau wānanga (family/day workshop) at our school to give our families the opportunity to experience some of our beautiful Māori arts - such as poi, harakeke (flax weaving), Māori musical instruments (taonga puoro)....and more!
Our whānau wānanga (family workshop) is a chance for us in the Wakari School Community to celebrate and experience some of our Māori arts. Please join us for a fun and interactive day!
WHEN? Saturday 17th September, 10am - 2.30pm
(lunch will be provided)
WHERE? At the Wakari School Hall
WHAT? We will have a selection of Māori Arts activities for families to come along and experience:
- Māori Musical Instruments (with Dr Jennifer Cattermole from the Music Department, University of Otago)
- Harekeke (Flax Weaving)
- Poi
- Rākau (stick games/songs)
- Taiaha (long wooden weapon)
- Kowhaiwhai symbols and patterns.
