Our kura participates in the 'Lunches in Schools' programme, meaning that all of tamariki will be offered a free lunch at school each day.

We will endeavour to have the lunch menu for the week uploaded each Monday morning.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Who pays for the lunches?

Lunches are fully paid for by the government for all children that attend our school.

Who is making the lunches and how are they arriving?

Waltham is part of a cluster of schools that has lunches supplied by the University of Canterbury catering department (UCSA). All lunches are delivered daily just prior to our scheduled 1:00pm eating time.

Will they be healthy and tasty enough?

A lot of planning and trialing has gone into the lunches in schools menu, so the simple answer is yes. Our providers continue to seek feedback and will constantly be looking at ways to improve.

What if my child is fussy and won't eat a lunch provided at school?

Lunches will always be offered and our teachers and support staff will encourage tamariki to try. If caregivers are worried about their child(ren) still being hungry, please feel free to pop something extra in their lunch box that will supplement their supplied school lunch.

If your child prefers a packed lunch from home and will not eat a supplied meal, you are of course able to provide this for them.

What about special dietary requirements e.g. gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, allergies etc.

All dietary requirements can be catered for. Please ensure you communicate this with our office staff via the shared survey, so your child will receive a lunch that meets their needs.

If there are changes to your child's dietary requirements after you have completed the yellow survey, please contact the office (admin@waltham.school.nz) so these can be updated.

What about cultural or religious considerations?

Pork or pork products are not used in any of the school lunches, and all meat is certified as Halal.

Should my child bring any food to school?

It would be great if child(ren) could still bring a morning tea snack.
