Tim Evers, Tumuaki/Principal
As we reach the end of an action packed term at Waltham School, I wanted to take a moment to extend my gratitude to the staff, students and our Waltham families. Your support has been instrumental in making this term a success. On behalf of the entire staff, I would like to thank you for your partnership in nurturing our students' growth and development.
This term has been filled with exciting events and achievements that have showcased the vibrant spirit of our school community. From the dazzling performance at "Dancing Like the Stars" to the energy of our classes during their 'Jumping June' fundraising efforts, our students have demonstrated their talent, enthusiasm, and creativity. A visit from Life Education was also a big highlight for Waltham this term. Classes were provided with a safe, supportive and encouraging environment to unpack some of the challenges that our young people face today, and strategies to make positive choices.
Sports have also played a significant role this term, with our Hagley winter sports teams representing our school so positively, and continuing to make weekly improvements. Our basketball teams have also displayed excellent teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship throughout the season.
The introduction of weekly Kapa Haka with our tutors Matua Sunny and Whaea Tui, provided our tamariki with another opportunity to celebrate our rich cultural heritage. I have been so impressed with our senior students for the way they have supported our junior classes and led from the front during these sessions.
We have a number of personnel and staffing updates to finish the term. After three and a half years at Waltham, Whaea Gaby will be leaving us at the end of this term. On behalf of the whole Waltham community, I would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to Gaby for all the energy, efforts and enthusiasm she has brought to our kura. We wish you nothing but the best for your future endeavours Gaby!
Michelle Young will be joining us next term in an Office Administrator Support role. This position will be two days per week. Michelle is a trained ECE teacher so will bring a wealth of knowledge and understanding of children to this role. I know our community will all make Michelle feel welcome next term.
Beginning next term, Anna Pol will also begin working with Whaea Lisa for the remainder of the year in Whetu, to support our New Entrant roll growth. It is wonderful to have Anna's expertise and continued support for the remainder of the year. We will be welcoming back Mrs Alannah Watson next term, who will be covering Mr Gault for his term 3 TeachNZ sabbatical. We wish Craig a fantastic term 3, and look forward to having him back on board in term 4.
I would also like to express my appreciation to our dedicated teachers and support staff who have worked tirelessly to create a nurturing and stimulating learning environment. Their commitment to providing high-quality education and fostering the holistic development of our students is truly commendable.
As we embark on the well-deserved holiday break, I urge you to take this time to relax and spend quality time with your loved ones.
Once again, thank you for your support and partnership. It is through our collective efforts that we can nurture a thriving and vibrant school community. On behalf of the entire school team, I wish you all a safe, and restful holiday break.
