Potential Teacher Strike Action

Rob Naysmith —

Wednesday 31 May

As you may have heard the primary teachers and principal's union (NZEI), along with the secondary teachers union (PPTA) have suspended current industrial action until the 30th May. The Minister of Education and the Ministry of Education have met with the unions together and hopefully are getting closer to a resolution on Collective Agreements. However NZEI Teachers have voted to strike on the 31st May should these further negotiations fail. We will know if this strike action is going ahead by Monday 29th. For this reason I wanted to give you a heads-up that a teachers strike on Wednesday next week is still a possibility. We all hope that this won't happen and that a suitable offer is forthcoming from the Ministry. I will keep you updated with an developments.
