EPro8 Challenge
We have been working on STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths) challenges to prepare for the EPro8 Challenge. They have used the ‘Electronic Simulator’, and had an introduction to our new Electronics Kit, learning about circuits. This is a great chance for our students to show their maths, logic and construction skills while they race to finish the challenge.
The EPro8 (Engineering, Problem-Solving, Innovate) Challenge is a nation-wide inter-school Science and Technology competition; an engineering and problem-solving race. and involves teams of four students.
This week we ran an in-school competition. This means all Year 5-8 students had the opportunity to use the equipment. This is a great experience, especially for those who didn’t think they were interested and found new skills, and had a blast!! Those who were competitive had a more formal competition. The excitement was high while they focussed on creating their structure for 2 hours. Particular enjoyment came from successful building, using their maths skills, and, of course, hitting the big red button to signal they were ready for judging!
I was again impressed with their teamwork and focus, and loved watching their enjoyment in making progress, especially from those who wouldn’t otherwise have chosen to take part. Next we will be using the ‘Electronic Simulator’, and have an introduction to the Electronics Kit, learning about circuits.
We have one Y7/8, and one Y5/6 team going to Clearview in Week 10 this term to compete against other schools.
Huge thanks again to the FOW in providing us with a building kit and an electronics kit in the last few years! The students appreciated being able to practise with the equipment before the competition!
