Yrs 5 & 6 Hanmer Springs Camp

Jane Adcock —

Last Wednesday saw the Years 5 & 6 students head away for an amazing 3 day camp up at Hanmer Springs.

School camps provide an invaluable and unique opportunity for students to grow in so many ways and, without exception, all the children successfully challenged themselves to go outside their comfort zones and, as a result, they came back to school feeling like superstars.

The weather was fine throughout our stay which meant that the children were able to make the most of the many awesome activities they experienced; Hanmer Pools thrills and spills, mountain biking, tree climbing, orienteering, bush skills, skit perfomances and organised games.

A huge thank you to Charlotte Hay, Blair Colombus and Marc Wendelken for their wonderful support of the children, helping them to enjoy every minute on camp.

The children consistently demonstrated our Weedons School values and received compliments on both their behaviour and their manners from the instructors, the catering staff, the accommodation staff and even the bus driver.

Let's give three randomly selected students the last word.

From Harry, "It was an awesome experience and I managed to climb the highest tree which I didn't think I would. Camps are a really good experience because you go outdoors and learn a whole lot of new stuff that you didn't know you could do."

From Davis, "I really enjoyed every part of my time there. My favourite thing was the tree climbing because I pushed myself to climb the huge tree and it was miles higher than I've ever gone before. Camps are really fun!"

From Travis, "It was a really fun and enjoyable experience and I loved lighting a cotton ball on fire as part of the bush skills. Camps give you a chance to learn new skills and have lots of fun!"
