We will be holding a Staff Only Day on Monday 1 May. This is the second Monday of Term 2 and school will be closed to students for the day. Our staff are continuing with Professional Development on Structured Literacy and have a facilitator coming out to run the day for us. We started working with The Literacy Connection at the beginning of this year as we develop and consolidate our knowledge and practice using a structured literacy approach. This approach to teaching literacy is strongly based on scientific research relating to the way the brain learns language. We tried to book for the first Monday of the Term but unfortunately this time had been booked with the next available day being in Week 2. 

The New Zealand Curriculum is currently being refreshed and the Ministry of Education has granted 4 staff only days to all schools over the next two years for professional development. The first one needs to be taken in the first two weeks of Term 2 this year. I will inform you all of subsequent days once I know.
