Week 6 Update - Upcoming Open Day & Events

Dee-anne Herdman —

Information regarding Open Day 2025 and upcoming events

Talofa Lava and Happy Samoan Language Week,

Students will have received an email from our Prefects regarding the celebratory events happening this week for Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa - Samoan Languages Week.

On Thursday 12 June we will be holding our annual Open Day. Because of this, classes will finish at the end of Session 3 (12 noon) to allow staff and students time to prepare for our two sessions being held at 3pm and 6pm.

If you have a student who is under 14 years of age and needs to be supervised until 3.20pm please let us know by emailing wegc@wegc.school.nz. Buses will run as normal.

Our students are heavily involved in the Open Day from supporting Learning Areas, being a guide welcoming our visitors to our school and being a Tour Guide. All Prefects will be involved and others will volunteer for one of these roles. If your student has volunteered, you will receive an email from the staff involved to give your permission shortly. If your student is not involved, students will be set work and be working from home from midday onwards.

If anyone in your whānau is Year 8 and is interested in attending one of the sessions with you please register via our website https://www.wegc.school.nz/enrolment, and complete the enrolment forms provided: https://www.wegc.school.nz/enrolments

All the best to our students involved in the Big Sing tomorrow - we will have 3 choirs taking the stage at the Michael Fowler Centre. We also look forward to Week 8 to the Regional Kapa Haka competition which is being held at Te Rauparaha Arena. Our combined rōpū from East and Rongotai have been working hard in their preparation. If you and your whānau are interested, tickets are available direct from the events organisers. Our group will perform in Section 4 which starts just after 4pm on Monday 16th June. All the best for the students, staff and whānau involved - we know how much hard work and effort goes into these events.

Ngā mihi nui,

Anna Wilson

Acting Principal
