Derived Grade Examinations will take place 1st Friday - 11th Monday September.

In Week 7 of Term 3, on Friday, our derived grade examinations will commence. This is a very important week for our senior students and it is vital that they prepare adequately. Should a student be unable to sit their NCEA examination(s) in November, these school examinations will be used to derive a grade for them. They are also a timely snapshot into where students can make further progress before the end of the year. Please see the timetable below. This examination series is predominantly for Year 11 - 13 students, but there are some Year 9 and 10 students who will also sit an exam if they take an NCEA Level 1, 2 or 3 subject this year. A more detailed timetable, including exam venues, will be available to students closer to the time. Examinations will, in most cases, be 3 hours in length and start times will be 9 am and 1 pm.

Examination timetable

Should a student miss one of their derived grade examinations, they are asked to speak to their class teacher, in the first instance, and then see the Head of Department or their Deans for any further assistance needed.

Any student who has a clash is asked to make arrangements with their teachers and should sit one of the examinations at a different agreed time. Digital examinations and examinations containing practical or listening components should take precedence.

Students away at tournament on Friday 1st September

A number of our sports teams will be attending their regional or national tournament when the derived grade examinations commence. Any student who misses an examination on Friday 1st September will have an allocated catch-up slot on Monday 11th September.

Study Leave: Friday 1st September - Monday 11th September (inclusive)

All NCEA Level 1, 2 and 3 (Y11, Y12 and Y13) classes will be suspended while the derived grade examinations are running. Senior students will only be required on site when they have a scheduled exam. However, teachers may arrange tutorial and workshop sessions for some classes and will communicate this with students directly.

Year 9 and Year 10 classes will run as normal, with a slight change to the timings of the day.

Year 9 and Year 10 students who have an exam will be permitted to take a morning or afternoon of study leave prior to their exam(s) in order to prepare. Some may elect not to take this study leave.

- morning exam = study leave granted for the afternoon (12:30 pm onward) on the day before

- afternoon exam = study leave granted for the morning on the exam day
