Year 12 Students Moving into Year 13 (2027)

For students in Year 13 there are no compulsory subjects. Most students will study 5 subjects, and have a study period on one line of their timetable.

Note - students will need to select 6 subjects. Study can be selected as one of these under 'Additional Year 13 options'.

We encourage students to think carefully about their pathway, in particular whether their courses are UE-approved if they are planning on degree study. There are also a range of tertiary and vocational options available to students. Please carefully check the information provided about any restrictions in combinations of subjects.

You will be sent information about Tutor Conferences next week. As part of the lead-up to subject selection and tutor conferences, students will complete a booklet during their Tīaho sessions. This helps them reflect on their progress, explore future options, and identify steps to maintain or improve their learning, in order to make sound subject choices for 2027. A PDF of this booklet is attached, but your young person will be able to show you his completed version on Google Classroom.

Key Dates

• Weeks 2–3: Course selection conversations with Tutor Teachers; workbook activities in tutor and Tīaho

  • Students begin submitting course selections online via SchoolBridge

• Week 4: Subject selections are discussed at Tutor Conferences (booking information to come).

  • Our Learning Area Leaders will be available for drop-in sessions on the day of Tutor Conferences (Wednesday 12th August). You are welcome to speak with them in the Library during the following times:

    • 11:30am – 12:30pm

    • 3:00pm – 4:30pm

• Final subject selections confirmed by Sunday August 16th.

What is the impact of new curriculum and qualification changes?

There are no changes to the school timetable or subject options for 2027, and our focus remains on building strong academic foundations and study habits. Older students (current Year 10 and above) will remain on the current NCEA pathway.
