Sport Report
Winter season underway.
Last weekend saw the winter season kick off to terrible weather conditions and numerous cancellations of outdoor sport.
3 football games took place with the 1st XI starting well beating HVHS 5-1 and Thoms Nischalke netting the first hat trick of the season. The 2nds beat Aotea 1st XI and the Yr 11 1st XI lost 4-2 to Wairarapa College.
WC rugby hosted Napier Boys High with both 1st XV and 2nd XV very competitive despite going down 33-27 and 26-14 respectively. The Under 15 Golds lost 48-17.
We are looking forward to better weather this weekend. Good luck to all those in the Black and gold.
Gannon continues winning ways
Eamon Gannon (yr10) spent the holidays in Hamilton where he achieved 3rd place in the Oceania U 15 boys squash champs. He was then part of the New Zealand team that competed against Australia in the Trans-Tasman series. Here he beat the Australian no. 2 seed U15 3-0 but overall Australia won the tie 21-11.
It was a great experience of international squash for all the young players.
Winter Sailing Begins Soon!
The new sailing season is about to begin with winter 420 training at Evans Bay Yacht Club.
WC competes in the national 420 Teams Sailing series (3 boat team vs another 3 boat team), with winter Teams Sailing training taking place every other Sunday.
There is also a chance to sharpen your sailing skills with 420 Fleet Racing every Saturday through the winter (coaching in the morning, racing in the afternoon).
By the end of Term 3 the new 7-8 person travelling/competing WC Sailing Team will be selected. There are at least 3 open places. Students who don’t make the team will continue training and will have some local opportunities to race.
Boats are provided and some life jackets, helmets and spray jackets are available to borrow. All you need are some clothes to keep warm and dry – a wetsuit or off-shore gear works fine.
