Where the Light Waits
Go well, young men
walk gently into the world,
with kindness as the compass
that you slip quietly into your pocket,
the tool that never wears out,
never runs dry,
never fails in the dark.
Carry resilience like a steady heartbeat,
not loud, not boastful,
but certain.
The strength that lifts you
when the world leans heavy,
and lifts others
when they lean on you.
For greatness is never measured
by how high you climb,
but by how many you reach back for.
Hold humility close;
the quiet grace to know
that every person you meet
is carrying a story
you haven’t heard yet.
Listen.
Let your presence be a soft place
where others feel safe to land.
As you walk towards new horizons
with brave, bright hopes,
remember this:
you belong here.
This College, your College,
stands with its doors wide open,
never judging,
always listening,
always ready to welcome you home.
When the winds of life blow fierce,
may Tāwhirimātea
send a gentler gust your way;
a whisper of where you come from.
A reminder of who you are.
May his breath guide you,
steady you,
and when you need it most,
blow you gently back to us.
And when the night feels long, look up.
Look for the light atop the tower block,
that steady beacon cutting through;
every shadow,
every sorrow,
every doubt.
It shines for you.
A guide.
A promise.
A quiet voice saying,
"You can always come home".
Go well, young men.
Be kind.
Be steady.
Be humble.
Walk with grace.
And wherever your journey carries you,
remember this place,
your anchor,
your home
the place
"Where the light waits".
