2019 Organisation

Susan Jackson —

Organisation for 2019 is underway with discussions with staff and learners reflecting on 2018 and aspects we need to focus on to enhance and support learning.

Communities of Learning, collaborative teaching teams, professional development to support future direction of the school, the school roll predictions to provide optimum learning environments for all,  are all part of the discussions informing 2019 organisation.

The following points are discussed and taken into consideration when considering placement of students in learning communities:

  • Time at school (juniors)

  • Social skills

  • Age

  • Academic ability

  • Friendships

  • Relationships

  • Family connections eg twins

  • Teacher strengths, teachers working collaboratively together

  • Roll growth considerations

  • Physical skills

  • Maturity levels

  • Leadership skills

  • Parental requests

  • Staffing entitlement (decided by the ministry based on roll predictions)

Staff will know of their collaborative teaching teams and year levels at our Teacher Only Day on the 19 November. They will have the opportunity to work with their 2019 teams in the afternoon sharing what this may look like.

In the morning we are working with Core Education progressing with our major focus of New Pedagogies for Deep Learning.

We are accepting written considerations for your child's placement in 2019. At this early stage, I can’t confirm what the year groups will be, these will be announced in the next newsletter. However, please email considerations to office@westmelton.school.nz by Monday 12 November. To enable a smooth process and to keep to time frames, no considerations will be considered after this date.
