The EcoWarriors ...........

Enviro School’s update

The EcoWarriors have been busy looking after chickens, worms and the schools recycling. Last term the EcoWarriors attended a monitoring day at the Kowhai Sanctuary to check on all of the work that has been done in previous years. They found that 386 out of 400 plants from last years Manuka Plant Out Day survived, which is awesome. They also found a number of native invertebrates, this indicate that the soil at the sanctuary is transitioning back to one which can support native fauna.

This term we will be selling worm juice (amazing fertiliser), eggs and produce from the schools garden. We have two new ventures for this term.  We will be selling tiger worm starter kits which are one of the best worms used to compost household waste. We will also be relocating the chook pen and making it more secure.  If you can help with this or would like a worm kit, please email Mr. Smalley, darren.smalley@westmelton.school.nz

Will will also be entering the Selwyn Environmental Film Competition - please remember to vote for the EcoWarriors, more details in the next newsletter.
