Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, MP, Rawiri Waititi MP (joint co-leaders of the Maori Party), and Catherine Delahunty, former Green MP, met last week to talk about the #FreeWestPapua movement.
Catherine is a staunch Tangata Tiriti who held this kaupapa down in Parliament for years, usually as the only MP. She is also the national spokesperson for the West Papua Action Aotearoa group, which advocates for indigenous rights in West Papua.
The situation for indigenous people in West Papua in the 21st century is comparable to Aotearoa in the 1860s. Colonisation and genocide is still happening in the Pacific. Read about the Free West Papua Campaign and tell your friends and whānau of their suffering.
West Papuans are imprisoned, tortured and murdered for exercising their rangatiratanga, for displaying their flag on their own land. All in the name of corporate colonial greed.
