Message from the Principal

Sylvia Fidow —

We are now four sleeps away from our inaugural performance at the Cultural Festival. We are nervously excited to participate in a festival with such a long tradition. In fact the ability to participate was only made possible by Miss Laura Finn's dedication - she has been attending the CF meetings in Woolston monthly after school since 2017, a pre-requisite to participate.

We have one hundred children performing in our kapahaka and pasifika groups. Today our kapahaka group got to have a bit of a practice for Monday as they toured around some of our local early childhood education centres performing. I'm sure all of the children loved watching and listening to them.

We are very grateful to Matua Te Huaki and Vaipou Shadwell for their awesome teaching of these two groups. Vaipou has MADE all of the pasifika costumes [at no cost to the school] so she deserves a really big shout out! And thanks to GROW for funding the first round of our kapahaka uniforms. These are of special value because you will see the pattern on them reflects Te Taumutu and Ngati Moki's values and was designed by our very own Tegan McMurdo-Dawson with some supportive feedback from Denise Sheat, Shannon Spencer, our BoT, and several other members of our school community. So best of luck to all of our performers and staff on Monday night!

Finally, please note that next Friday 07 September our school will be CLOSED for staff only day. Thank you.

Ngā mihi

Sylvia
