2019 INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS AND ASSESSMENTS FOR SCHOOLS (ICAS)

Kia ora Parents/Caregivers

Information about the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) is coming home this week. Teachers will be giving out permission slips to those children who are interested in taking part. Here is a reminder about what it is all about.

The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools gives children in years 3 -8 a chance to gain a measure of their own achievement in an external testing situation. It provides teachers, parents and children with a comprehensive assessment of higher order thinking and problem solving skills, needed for success in the areas of Digital Technologies, English, Writing, Spelling, Mathematics and Science. We are currently inviting children in year 3-8 to register for the optional ICAS competitions which will take place during September. These exams are now all online except the year 4 and 5 writing exam which will still be done on paper. This will be the reason for the increased price of the exams (now all $15).

All learners receive a certificate and an online individual report, indicating which questions they answered correctly and their score compared with the rest of the children tested.

Certificates are awarded for each year level as follows:

  • High Distinction to the top 1% of entrants
  • Distinction to the next 10% of entrants
  • Credit to the next 25% of entrants
  • Participation to all other participating students.

Please note that year 3 learners are only able to enter the following: Science, Spelling, English, Mathematics.

If your child would like to enter, please return the permission slip to the school office AND pay the entry fee via internet banking to 12-3153-0021818-00, with a reference of your child’s name as well as the letters ICAS by Friday 9th August 2019. Please note that unless the fee is paid the entry will not be made.

Many thanks
