Pepper and Petal
As many of you already know, we welcomed Petal, an adult female kunekune, to WRPS following the passing of our beautiful black boar, Duncan.
Petal has come from a lifestyle block in West Melton and has also recently lost her companion. She has been with us for 3 weeks and she and Pepper are still getting used to each other.
We would like to acknowledge the many visitors who have popped in to say hello to Pepper and Petal during the holidays. They really are quite an attraction in our community and are enjoying all the attention.
A special thank you to the following families who diligently fed and cared for them during this time, even going so far as to shower them and make fruit ice blocks to chomp on when it was hot. Piper and Grace Inwood, Lucas Luo, Ruby Gardner, Harper and Harri Te Whata, the Millar family and the Brightwell family.
We would also like to recognise the continued and valued involvement of the Clarke family, who have been with us since the arrival of Pepper and Duncan, and Briar and Nick, who visit daily to check on Petal's welfare as she transitions to her new home, and who helped with the construction of a second shelter in the pigsty.
This year we will continue to collect food scraps from lunchboxes to help feed our very hungry ladies. If your child is in year 5 or 6, they will also have the opportunity to become one of our valued pig monitors.
Thank You
Ms Mackenzie
