Message from the Principal

Sylvia Fidow —

I am excited to announce that next Tuesday afternoon we are launching our new whare [house] model. This model has been developed by Mrs Caitlyn Tinnelly and sees our elected ambassadors leading each of the six whare in pairs.

On Monday your child will learn which whare they will be in for their duration of learning at our school.

* Karaka [orange] lead by Isabella and Coby

* Whēro [red] lead by Lincoln and Theo

* Kikorangi [blue] lead by Mikki and Reuben

* Waiporoporo [purple] lead by Ruby and Stella

* Kakariki [green] lead by Liam and Jasmine

* Kõwhai [yellow] lead by Riley and Sarah

We will use our WHARE model to help build a sense of belonging across the school using a Tuakana Tēina approach which promotes junior learners working alongside senior learners. There will also be an element of competition as whare compete against each other in school events like crosscountry and athletics fun days. We hope that learners will wear their whare colours at these events. The whare system will also replace our WISH JAR system as learners gain whare points or pompoms for super behaviour and for following our kōwhai rules. The winning whare will then choose a fun whole school activity each term for EVERYONE!

Our Kāhui Ako [cluster of local education centres - us, Clearview Primary, Rolleston Primary, Lemonwood Grove, Rolleston College, Waitaha School, Rolleston Christian School, West Melton, Burnham School, Weedons Primary and Kingslea School - Te Puna Wai] have developed a survey on how our community has responded to the Covid19 Lockdown period. It would great if you could please share your thoughts in this survey:

Survey

The survey is for educators, parents/caregivers and whānau and our learners. It closes Friday 03 July and we will share a summary of findings next term.

Thanks to everyone for supporting the Gumboot I am Hope Mufti day. We raised just over $700 which has been forwarded to the I am Hope foundation.

Finally, it is GROWs [PTA] AGM wine and cheese evening on Monday at 7pm in the staff-lounge - ALL WELCOME.

Ngā mihi

Sylvia
