Message from the Principal
I happened across this group of children in the library at lunch-time yesterday. They were completely self-managing, had organised their own game independently and everyone was turn-taking and participating. They were displaying all of the dispositions and capabilities
that we aim to develop in our learners in our flexible, innovative learning spaces in accord with the NZ Curriculum. This makes me think ahead to the next two weeks and the well deserved break the children will be having. I hope you encourage them to get outside and play, here's some ideas you can tell them from Ms Fidow: make hopscotch out of pegs and play hopscotch with a stone, build a blanket village and make a wee township underneath - hey they can call it 'tilted towers,' set up a fitness circuit and time younger siblings or soft toys to run through it! And go to one of my favourite places - visit the library :)
When I reflect over the past term I am proud of all of the learning experiences the children have been provided with across the curriculum - Arts week, weaving, reading chapter books, Cultural Festival, making bags, golf, maths, GROW time, learning about NZ myths and legends, writing, baking, cricket, problem based learning, kids for kids concert, wearable arts. ... We are also planning a busy and full term for the final term of the year. We will be starting with our popular GROW time programme for the first three weeks of term (Friday 2.00-2.45pm) so please look out for a notice about this in the newsletter and add your name to the list of volunteers!
Have a safe and enjoyable break
Sylvia
