Message from the Principal

Sylvia Fidow —

We continue to have lots of visiting educators coming to our school to view our teaching and learning programmes and collaborative learning spaces. In this photo Zavier and Keith [ambassadors] were showing staff from the soon to open Ararira Primary School in Lincoln through our school.

It is always a privilege to share our school with others. I always remind them though that schools evolve and change over time as new learners and families come into them, and that we need to be responsive to feedback. We are currently organising our learning studios for 2019 and thinking about how the spaces and programmes will change according to the needs of the children. I appreciate the thought and planning that goes into this from the staff. Thank you for completing our annual survey. Your thoughts help us with our planning too. We have also been surveying senior learners and will use their thoughts and ideas as well.

This week we held our junior athletics sports. The event is similar to all of our other local schools in that we all share sports co-ordinators who come in and help organise and support this day. You may have met our sports co-ordinator Josh who worked with Peter Northmore to organise the event. The smiles on the faces of the children was a joy to see and the participation was awesome. Thanks to all of our parents and whānau who came along and supported and joined in!

This week I have also been listening to wonderful stories from our learners about their Diwali celebrations which sound amazing. We have such a rich and diverse school population full of wonderful cultures and ethnicities. We are about to start planning for some cultural sharing and celebrations early in the new year so watch this space.

Finally, thanks for supporting our Arts and Physical Education programmes with dance and swimming. We are excited about these extension opportunities and hope the children learn many new skills.

Ngā mihi

Sylvia
