BoT - Update from latest meeting

Simon McDermott —

Here is a summary of the last Board meeting held last week!

Roll Growth - Sylvia updated us on the latest roll growth and projections.  We are predicting the roll to be at 563 at the beginning of next year - why is this important did I hear you ask?  Well - this determines the number of teaching roles we can have, and that also means we can estimate how much other teaching support we may need.  So, the growth has slowed a bit - but with all the development still going on this will prove challenging.

On that topic - Sylvia, Steph, Tegan and Sam went to a session ran by the MoE on zoning a couple of weeks ago.  There are some recommendations coming forward with all the schools to modify our zones - its not a huge change predicted for us - but "fixes" some of the "stretched" areas closer to Lemonwood Grove etc.  Consultation will be underway in due course.

Safe Travel Management - elsewhere in the newsletter you will see a letter the Board has written to the Mayor pleading for Council assistance with speed zones and traffic around the school.  We want a reduction around the school area - and you can help us by canvassing the Council, Councillors and Mayor for help.  Our pleas have fallen on deaf ears to date - BUT with local body elections underway hopefully we can leverage some sensible assistance in this cause.  To be quite frank - the Council are acting very poorly in this regard and we dont believe they have our communities interests at heart.  So - if you have an opportunity to talk to them - give them a stern message - HELP US, before there is an accident!

We are doing our part in this - there is an extension to the bike/scooter park about to commence, and we will be running a week of awareness at the beginning of next term around safe travel.

Also - we are about to install security cameras that will have a clear view of the parking areas and public access areas.  There are several near-misses and poor practices at times - for the health and safety of all our community we need to be able to be clear on what is expected here.  In the new term we will be running a campaign to help us all manage the peak traffic periods in a less chaotic manner.  Personal responsibility and basic courteous behavior is appreciated.

Other business - we also covered off many property matters and plans for refreshing the annual and strategic plans in October.

Finally - a massive thanks for everyone involved in the Cheese-Roll making.  From organisation to cleanup this is a massive task - well done.  Supporting GROW in the amazing job they do is one of the most rewarding things our community can do to help our school.  Keep up the good work!
