Last term, on the 15th of September we headed to Hagley Park to represent West Rolleston after winning the Selwyn Zones earlier in the year.

On a sunny Thursday, our 11 member squad headed out to play in a 5-aside tournament at Hagley Park. 

Our players: Israel, Isabella, Raphael, Oakley, Teddy, Henry, Ollie, Ollie, Grayson and Carter had an amazing day and worked hard throughout.

We got off to a rough start in the pool games with a few close defeats. We were making chances however, but were getting a little unlucky at times. After finishing low in the pools, we moved into the placement finals and won a few to put us in the game for 11th or 12th. 

We fell behind by two early goals, but through hard work and some clever play came back to win 3-2 leaving us in 11th for the day. 

It was fantastic to be involved and I want to commend the players for their hard work and teamsmanship as games were fast, plentiful and the rotation of subs meant having to dig in when they were out on the field. They all supported one another, cheered on their successes and supported through mistakes and losses. 

Another special mention goes to the parents. We had a large support of parents and extended whanau who came to show their support. You were all wonderful and positive, making a huge difference for those on the pitch. Thank you for your time and aroha. 

Finally, I would like to acknowledge Fred and his support throughout the day and during the term leading up to the event. He offered his time, knowledge and support throughout the whole process and made a good day great for myself and those in the team. 

A great day out and a huge success. I look forward to doing it all over again next year!
