Message from the Principal

Sylvia Fidow —

Welcome to Term 2

Welcome back to Term 2 and a special welcome to our twelve new learners and their families. A warm welcome also to our new teacher in Te Kete Kākano, Miss Amy Blakeman. We hope you all enjoyed the mihi whakatau on Monday morning and that you enjoy being a part of our school community.

In the school holidays our school hosted a national conference with Cyclone. It was exciting to showcase our beautiful school and share the wonderful evidence of learning throughout all of the studios. I was particularly impressed with a keynote speech by Sylvia Duckworth on the benefits of creativity in our curriculum. A timely reminder that children experience so many learning benefits from dancing, making music, exploring art and being expressive.

We have launched straight into Term 2 with a special science week which has caused great excitement with our learners. There have been exploding volcanoes, bouncing eggs, bubble-ology, elephant toothpaste - just to name a few exciting experiments. Hopefully your child has come home and told you about this.

We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead filled with the usual broad curriculum areas plus winter sport for the Year 5-8s, school crosscountry, and special Matariki celebrations.
