Year 7&8 Korfball

Katie Talbot —

Our seniors have had a great time playing Korfball these past few weeks!

During this term, our amazing Te Ara Maia learners will take part in a series of Korfball sessions with the esteemed Yuri from Canterbury Korfball. Included in these sessions is the opportunity to try out a new sport which many wouldn’t try without that extra push. Some of the skills we have acquired in this korfball adventure are; how to shoot with the different hoops, how to one hand pass and the different rules.

Here is what our whero whare leaders had to say about the experience:

Josh: "I liked that it was a team sport, and the fact that you got to play both attack and defence. I learnt how to cooperate with the changing positions and that you can shoot from behind the goal, which added a different aspect to the game. A rule change that I liked was that after 2 goals you swapped positions."

Joel: "I liked the fact that even though I don’t enjoy basketball or netball, korfball put a new twist on those intriguing games. I learnt how to shoot with these new hoops and how to defend correctly. My favourite rule was how there were only 2 positions which made it simpler for beginners like me."

On behalf of Te Ara Māia I would like to thank Yuri for taking his time to come teach us korfball, and to Miss Lambert for organising this for us. We can’t wait to learn even more amazing new skills!!!!!!!!
