Message From the Principal

Sylvia Fidow —

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making our matariki whānau evening such a success. The children enjoyed sharing their matariki learning displays and we were so proud of our kapahaka performing group.

This group practice weekly with Matua Te Huaki and a group of teachers support them, lead by Miss Laura Finn. The picture above shows Sam Forward, from our Board of Trustees, acknowledging the teaching of Matua Te Huaki during the children's performance last evening. We are very excited that our kapahaka group, along with our pasifika group, will perform at the Cultural Festival on Monday 3 September.

Many thanks to all of the people who organised the food, the food preparation and the cooking of our hangi. Many hands make light work! The money raised will be used to contribute towards the purchase of kapahaka uniforms for the children. It was also great to see our families relaxing together enjoying the hangi dinners. Thanks to my awesome staff who work tirelessly to ensure these community whānau events happen!

Finally, the government are asking all communities to have their say on how progress and achievement is reported across the curriculum in Years 1-10. I have been involved in a reference group seeking to gather people's voices in this area. PLEASE have your say now by participating in this survey:

Link to the Survey: https://conversation.education.govt.nz/conversations/curriculum-progress-and-achievement

It can be completed by parents, grandparents, children, educators - everyone who is interested in educating our future.
